I was able to add the Easter holiday (not as an event).  I'm still checking on how to grant additional permissions for this feature.

Dayton Hamvention / Who's going to the Dayton Hamvention in 2014?
« on: February 01, 2014, 11:31:32 AM »
My wife and I are going to Hamvention this year.  We are staying in Beavercreek which is just a bit SE of Dayton.  We head out Thursday morning and plan on leaving Sunday midday.  Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door which is good for the three day event.  So other than food, gas, hotel and spending money it's not too bad.

Last year I went down with Nels and company.  He books rooms in New Paris, OH (just on the state line) and gets some pretty nice deals on the rooms.

See you there,
Brian

This project has been renamed to Volumio (http://volumio.org/) and supports multiple platforms.  The beta version for the Raspberry Pi seems to be working really well.

Great information Gary.  Thanks for the reminder on the use of the 'manual' range to be more responsive to quick changing signals.

Raspberry Pi/2 / Raspbmc
« on: September 26, 2013, 11:01:15 PM »
I've also experimented with the distro called Raspbmc for installing the XBMC platform on the Raspberry Pi.  This is a multimedia software package that allows for all sorts of content to be viewed on a TV.  The main sections are Weather, Pictures, Videos and Music.  The key thing to note is that almost any type of media can be viewed and/or listened to using this platform.  For instance I was able to view various episodes of TWiT and Ham Nation this evening along with various ham repeaters (yes, many clubs are streaming their repeater audio on the Internet).  So if you have a spare TV, why not plug it in to a Raspberry Pi?!

Well, the FTM-400DR is now available for purchase but the early reviews are not very good -- what a shame.  I really wanted to purchase one.

Raspberry Pi/2 / RaspyFi for audio
« on: September 24, 2013, 09:00:15 PM »
I recently obtained a Raspberry Pi and installed the RaspyFi distro on it for my son's room.  He wanted to listen to his favorite radio station that wasn't coming in very in his room so this is a great application for it.  They support higher-end USB DACs but I'm just using the standard stereo from the 3.5mm jack.

Check out www.raspyfi.com for the latest version.  They just released their non-beta version and it's working quite well.  I especially like the web interface which makes it very easy to use.  There's also a smartphone app that makes it really easy to use the web interface.

The hardest part is finding the correct URLs for the streaming radio stations.  I found a few websites that assisted me in finding them but I will have to look them up and post them later.

I just found this thread on a message board that referenced Trace inverters.  http://www.fieldlines.com/index.php?topic=146361.0

Don't forget to factor in the inrush load when starting the welding.
