Linux / Favorite distribution?
« on: May 29, 2013, 10:34:19 PM »
I'm curious what version of Linux people are using and why you chose it.

I've installed Ubuntu using Oracle's VM VirtualBox on my Mac.  It runs great but I haven't really found a need / use for it.

Questions / Programming software
« on: May 28, 2013, 09:15:28 PM »
Has anyone used the free program software called CHIRP?  It supports numerous radios on multiple computer platforms but I don't have a supported radio to test it out.  Any advice and/or comments?

I was able to enable the feature to show upcoming events at the bottom of the main page.  Check out the screenshot in the attachment.

Pretty cool.

Enjoy experimenting with the Arduino Gary.  Keep us informed as to what you're tinkerin' with -- It's always fun to hear what others are doing.

Thanks for the link to your site Gary, W9XT, regarding your tutorials on micros.  Nice to see some real world tips from a pro.

Actually, that is a pretty good idea Brian.   It might draw more members to this site, as well as
make it easier for me to post to the calendar.    I could be missing it, but there isn't a way to
edit an Event title if I make a mistake on the Calendar.    I had to remove a post to clean up
something I did earlier, but not a big deal either.

See if you can edit one now.  Surprisingly there was a different setting for that which I didn't notice before.

Thanks for adding the area swapfests to the calendar Tom.  I'm thinking of removing the calendar from the main site and pointing it to the one here.  What do you think?

I just looked and I see that I did add the ORC Spring Swapfest to the calendar.  By default regular members were not able to do so but I think I have made the necessary change so any registered member can add events.  Give it a try!

I can check to see how that works. I haven't checked out the calendar on here yet.

The link for the Fall Swapfest did not work.    I can an error that the file is damaged or
corrupt or something.   Also got the same message when trying via the ORC website.

Thanks Tom.  I've uploaded a new copy of the file.

Annual Awards Banquet / Survey
« on: May 23, 2013, 08:57:13 PM »
Hello everyone,
As you may know, attendance at the Annual Awards Banquet/Post-Everything-Party has been declining. Your Board of Directors has decided to circulate a survey to the members of ORC to determine how we can make this, the major social event of the year, more attractive to the membership. Your response is essential to help us determine what changes are necessary for your attendance and enjoyment of this event, both for fellowship and recognition of deserving club members.
This survey is completely anonymous; respondents cannot be identified. Of course, if you would like to identify yourself, you may do so in one of the comment sections. Participation in the survey is obviously voluntary, but an accurate cross section of members' opinions will depend on the maximum number of responses.
The survey consists of only ten questions. Here is the link:
The link has been removed.  Only available to ORC memebers on the re-mailer.
Thank you in advance for your participation.
 Art Davidson AC9CD
 First Vice President ORC

Be sure to participate in the survey that was recently sent out via the re-mailer.  Your feedback is very important.

Still not completely packed nor do I have my list together but I'll be meeting up with Ted, KB9RLI, tomorrow morning and heading out to Dayton as well.  Perhaps we'll be able to meet up with some of you for lunch.  Let's hope the rain holds off for us!
