Cellcom - Green Bay Marathon 05/18/2014
« on: February 08, 2014, 03:35:20 PM »
If you are not going to the Dayton Hamvention, and wish to use your ham radio skills to work a
marathon, then check out the Cellcom - Green Bay Marathon.    They are looking for volunteers for
the event.   As of their posting on February 6, 2014, they only have about half of the 60
volunteers they feel they need to properly run the event.    This marathon has a Packer theme
to it, as the full marathon ends with a lap inside Lambeau Field.

A Tech license and 2 meter HT are the minimum requirements, no experienced needed, as you will
be placed with an experienced ham on the route.   If you have a dual band HT, they might also
be using a 440 repeater.

It is an early start on Sunday morning (5:45 am), but you can also get a room on Saturday night.
Cellcom is providing rooms at no cost, though you would be rooming with another ham, as they
are double occupancy rooms.    These rooms are for hams only, so if you know of a ham that wants
to volunteer, you could be in the same room.

Taken from the April 2014 ORC newsletter:

Gentlemen,
If you would, please forward this to all DEC's and EC's for distribution to ARES members (and non-members):
We currently have 51 days left until the race, but we only have 38 people signed up.
We need at least another 22-30 volunteers!
I'd like to reach out again to all amateurs in Wisconsin, ARES districts and county EC's
one more time. We have hotel rooms available for out-of-town folks. New hams are also welcome.
Please talk to your fellow "hams" and pass the word at club meetings and on the local nets as well.

For more information go to :

Update posted 04/14/2014, and taken from:
http://groupspaces.com/Cellcom-Marathon-ARES/item/636693

33 Days and Counting

Everything is on track! We are just a month away from race day, with 49 volunteers signed up including the Civil Air Patrol, but we still need at least 10 more volunteers to complete the course assignments.

As soon as the snow melts (yes, we got 3" over night), we'll start to deploy the APRS digipeaters and test the "toolbox" trackers in the Prevea Med Vans. We'll also do some testing with the Mesh Nodes.

The documentation is nearly complete. I hope to email volunteer information by the end of the week. Please read it. I will cover some of the key points during the pre-race briefing, but the bulk of the need-to-know stuff will be in the email attachmnets.

If you have done so already, please make sure that the information in your profile on this site is up to date. It's the only way to reach you and the information is used to register everyone on the Cellcom website.

I'm looking forward to seeing all of you on May 18th!
Thanks for volunteering!

They had 49 volunteers, but 3 had to drop out.   So, they are down to 46 volunteers, and would
like to get 10 - 15 more for a total of about 60.

from:  http://groupspaces.com/Cellcom-Marathon-ARES/

WE HAVE REACHED THE DATABASE LIMIT OF 50 ON THE groupspaces.com/Cellcom-Marathon-ARES/ WEBSITE, SO IT NO LONGER ALLOWS NEW MEMBERS. DO NOT TRY TO SIGN UP HERE!

YOU CAN STILL SIGN UP BY SENDING AN EMAIL TO: carrd1952@gmail.com?subject=Volunteer%20for%20Cellcom%20Marathon

Please include:
Full Name
Daytime and/or Cell Phone
Call sign and County you reside in
T-Shirt Size (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL)
If you're an ARES member, I'll need the call sign of your EC.
Hotel rooms are still available on a shared basis at no charge. If you require a room let me know as soon as possible!

If you want to share a room with a specific "ham" and they agree, BOTH of you must register and indicate the call sign of the person you are sharing with, otherwise the rooms are assigned at random!

I must have all of the above information to get you registered for the marathon!

I apologize for the inconvenience and will have this fixed as soon as possible!
