EAA Special Event Station Operators Needed

The Fox Cities Amateur Radio Club has been invited once again to operate
a Ham Radio Special Event Station from the EAA Museum grounds during
the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014.

The sign-up for this year's EAA Special Event Station is now being opened to the
ARRL general membership and will be drawing to a close on June 15, 2014.
This has to be done so the EAA can finalize their planning to accommodate us during the event.

We will operate 5 days -- Wednesday through Sunday, during the show
(July 30 thru Aug 03, 2014). This operating event is open to all license classes.
We will operate 2 HF stations, one on 20m and one on 40m, 6-meter SSB, plus local communications on 2-meters.
The club call, W9ZL, will be used throughout the event

We are still looking for both "am" and "pm" operators covering most of
the 5 days, (Thursday and Saturday shifts are FULL).
Operators needed for Wednesday and especially on Friday.
There will be eight operating positions available for each shift daily.
You can sign up for one shift or more if you so desire.
We will be set up at the Lone Rock Service Building at the Pioneer Airport
where we were located in past years.

The event is open to all of the amateur community.

I could still use some additional help for filling the Wednesday and Friday shifts.
I'd like to remind people that this is a Special Event Station, not the usual community service
event and as such entails much less time standing or walking about. Instead we serve as
ambassadors for our hobby to the public visiting us during the event.
All operators, regardless of license class, will be able to operate our HF stations making
contacts with fellow ham's across the country and the world. Many other licensed
Amateur Radio operators will stop in to visit us in person, and you'll also have the opportunity
to share our hobby with the general public and help give kids their first chance to operate and make a radio contact.

The EAA is very appreciative of our presence and does provide very well for us during the event
with food and refreshments. In order to accommodate their needs in planning to do so,
I will be closing sign-up for operating positions this year on June 15, 2014.

I highly encourage those of you that have not operated the EAA Special Event Station to join us this year.
It is a fun and rewarding way to help our hobby and enjoy a day of friendship, radio operating and airplanes.

If operators sign up for a 4 hour shift, they will be given a daily wristband
that will allow them to go and wonder around the Fly-in.

At the monthly meeting Wed night, the question was raised about getting the wristbands before
entering.   As I didn't know, I e-mailed Jon AB9AH and this is what I received back from him:

"The wristband is for full admission to the event. We typically meet before the days event for breakfast or I arrange to get my operators on the museum grounds as they arrive. The wristband is a full adult pass to the Airventure grounds. No charge for it to my operators."

Remember the deadline to sign-up is June 15, 2014.
If you have any further questions about the EAA AirVenture and Special Event
Station, please contact Jon at:  ab9ah@arrl.net
